There are now more Scottish Wych Elm boards that have been kiln dried from the Brahan estate. Most of these boards are thicker stock (up to 70mm) mainly 40 to mm though. Some have wane and burr and the majority of the boards have wonderful grain pattern. We are hoping of the next few days to get some more larger boards photoed and numbers ready for adding as well
We have just added a new stock of kiln dried Wych Elm boards to our stock list. The timber is from the Brahan estate west of Inverness and for those who are interested it is part of the Mackenzie clan. The trees hand unfortunately succumbed to Dutch Elm disease, hence we were called into extras the timber and put it all to good use.
Woodworkz has just taken a delivery of 25 tonne of European Larch from the Loch Ness area. There is around 22 tonne of 4.9m lengths and the remainder in 3m lengths. The logs are straight with central hearts, so should produce excellent boards, for cladding and construction etc
A kiln load of around 4-4.5m3 of gorgeous locally sourced Wych Elm has just finished the drying cycle and hopefully later this week will be unloaded from the kiln and taken to the dry store, to be measured and quantified for the stock lists. Once completed it will be publish on this site. Most of the boards are around 50mm thick, so will thickness to around 40mm finish. We will keep you updated of the progress and hopefully tempt you with pictures of the grain patterns etc.
We have, through December, undertaken an extraction of a large amount of Wych Elm from the Brahan Estate near Inverness.
