Lochcarron site continues to be developed as resources permit with the intended
new mill now to be a TimberKing 2200. This will offer a 22 feet length of board of
maximum width 34". The largest log size is 39" with a 20" clearance above the blade,
all powered by a 49HP diesel motor. The decision to not opt for an electric mill is
partially because of lower power installation costs and that the Wood Mizer kiln,
which is currently run on electricity, can be heated by waste sawdust & scrap
wood-burning as reported earlier.
There is still the intention to extend the Lumbermate for long beam production.
Note, this is to produce the 12 main beam sections for our buildings, the largest of
which is 9.4m x 275x95mm. Where two of these will sandwich a 200x50mm.
All Douglas Fir.
Trees in places with difficult access can be reduced in diameter with either the
double motored Stihl chain saw mill or a Logosol single motor "Big Mill" system.
See www.logosol.com
This allows extraction and transport to site for what may well be otherwise
wasted timber.
The crane trailer is about to have a new motor and we are looking for a replacement
crane to offer greater reach and lift capacity. It will also be fitted with off-road tyres
to reduce ground pressure and avoid damage to gardens.
In most cases logs of most species are cut to maximise quarter-sawn board
production, especially in the case of Oak. In all cases logs can be cut to suit
the customer, by arrangement.
