Chainsaw mill reduction to cants

The finish on each board is exceptional. Visit the Norwood web site at www.norwoodindustries.com.

With the Lumbermate we can travel to most locations and salvage otherwise wasted timber. In many cases trees with difficult access can be reduced in diameter with either the double motored Stihl chain saw mill or a Logosol single motor “Big Mill” system.

The Woodworkz site at Lochcarron is being developed as the primary location for the milling of timber. Currently the mill is a Norwood Lumbermate 2000, a mobile horizontal band saw, which can cut up to 5.1m long and 600mm in diameter. We are planning to upgrade our milling capacity with the purchase of a Wood-Mizer LT70 once the designed mill shed is complete.

This allows extraction and  transport or band saw milling on site. In this way we aim to be as efficient as possible in the use of a resource.

Extraction & transport is made possible with our “Hiab trailer”, a rugged off-road trailer with 2te crane and full stabilisation. It is also used for loading the band saw mill making it a fast and efficient handling operation.

In most cases logs of most species are cut to maximise quarter-sawn board production, especially in the case of Oak. In all cases logs can be cut to suit the customer, by arrangement.

Again, depending on species and size of log, we aim to hold kiln dried thinner boards of 25~30mm, thicker of 55~70mm and air dried stock up to 100mm.

Posts and beams can be cut to order. In future this will not be restricted to 5.1m length.
